They call me | Poem by Jurgen Namupira AKA Troy

I did not land here by choice
I also want to be where they are
I never enjoy the days
The dark hour terrifies me
I spend the night at the mercy of
hooligans
I also wish I had gone to school
I would have bought my black BMW
I am just an African child with no
home.

I have heard testimonies
Testimonies of superstars
Stars that rose from the bottom to
the top
They were once in my position
But can I also be in their position
I wonder!

They always hail the stars
Stars that started off like me
I believe I can do it also
But I just don’t understand one
thing

They call me…
Street kid,
Yes! That is what they call me

Why?
