Having begun to love you by Ese Ataide

Having begun to love you, I love you

Like an altar boy loves the frazzled

Scent of incense. The morning dew

Like crystal pendants settles on a

Fresh-cut lawn; the fog breathes softly

on my window pane; sun rays cut a swathe

of iridescent light; the lyre bird chants a lovely

tune – But, it is the rhythm of your soft breath

upon my cheek like a tender summer cloud

that advances to a conclusion my unending love of you

Having begun to love you, I love you

For ever – in all changes, in all disgraces,

Because you are yourself. I ask no more.
